Louisiana Student Leaders attend New Hampshire Primary Student Convention

This week, student leaders from across the state of Louisiana attended the New Hampshire Primary Student Convention in Manchester, New Hampshire. This event is a once in a lifetime experience that allows students the opportunity to interact with presidential hopefuls in the first series of nationwide primary elections.

The 2016 New Hampshire Primary Student Convention includes a series of activities throughout three days including town hall meetings, informational sessions, panel discussions, tours of campaign headquarters, and a straw primary election poll for students. Louisiana students posed questions to the candidates, listened to speeches, learned about campaigning, and had a first-hand experience in presidential politics.

“This is truly an amazing experience,” said SULC Student Body President and Board of Regents student member Patrick Harrington. “The candidates have been so excited to meet with us about issues that are important to us, not only as student leaders, but as citizens and possibly the next leaders of this country. I will never forget this incredible opportunity.”

46 leaders represented the Louisiana delegation from all public colleges an universities across the state. “This has been one of the most inquisitive and intellectual group of students to attend this event,” says Harold Boutte, advisor to the Council of Student Body Presidents. “We have received numerous compliments on how well this group has presented themselves, in addition to the substance of questions they have posed to the candidates.”
