REGENTS LAUNCHES TEACHER PREPARATION DATA DASHBOARDS
The Louisiana Board of Regents is supporting campus efforts to disseminate accurate information about teacher preparation programs to the public by launching Teacher Preparation Data Dashboards for each institution. The purpose of the new dashboards is to provide immediate access to data, along with increased transparency.
The new dashboards are providing relevant information about four important components of teacher preparation: Candidate Selection Profile, Knowledge and Skills for Teaching of Completers, Performance as Classroom Teachers, and Program Productivity and Alignment to State Needs. The dashboards identify cohorts of program completers and follow them into their first and second years of teaching in public schools in Louisiana. Each year additional data will be reported for new cohorts of program completers.
“All universities have redesigned their teacher preparation programs and want the public to have factual information about the quality of their completers,” said Jeanne Burns, Associate Commissioner for Teacher and Leader Initiatives, Louisiana Board of Regents. “What is unusual is that this is a voluntary effort and not a mandate from the State.”
Parents, prospective teachers, district personnel, and the general public can either view an individual data dashboard for each institution or they can examine information in a Teacher Preparation Program Fact Book, which provides a listing of information found on all dashboards plus additional contextual information.
“The dashboards are providing Louisiana citizens with information about the actual performance of teacher preparation programs and not perceptions about programs,” said W. Clinton Rasberry, Jr., Chairman of the Board of Regents.
Fact book highlights include:
• 99% of all new teachers who completed undergraduate teacher preparation programs in 2011-12 in Louisiana passed all licensure assessments to become certified to teach in Louisiana;
• 100% of all new teachers who completed alternate teacher preparation programs in 2011-12 in Louisiana passed all licensure assessments to become certified to teach in Louisiana;
• 95% of all undergraduate program completers obtained Compass Final Evaluation scores at the effectiveness levels in 2012-13 during their first and second year of teaching; and
• 95% of all alternate program completers obtained Compass Final Evaluation scores at the effectiveness levels in 2012-13 during their first and second year of teaching.
